If you are using the new Microsoft Office 2016 on Windows, you may find it automatically updates every now and then when the network is available on your computer. That’s because Microsoft Office 2016 comes with the auto-update feature, which is enabled by default so that it will automatically update without informing you. The auto-update feature saves users from manually updating. However, constant updates may make the drives or applications on some computers not perform well so that some users may want to disable auto updates feature and stop Office 2016 from updating. Now, this post will show you two ways todisable automatic updates in Office 2016.
Way 1: Disable Office 2016 automatic updates via Update Options
Today, we’re excited to announce that Office 365 is now available on the newly redesigned Mac App Store. With one click, Mac users can download the cloud-connected, always-up-to-date version of the Office suite—including full installs of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and OneDrive. Applies to: Office for Mac, Office 2019 for Mac, Office 2016 for Mac. Microsoft AutoUpdate (MAU) version 3.18 and later includes the msupdate command-line tool. This can be used to start the update process for Microsoft applications produced for Mac, such as Office. Reassign the F4 button in Excel for Mac. Select the Tools menu, and click Customize Keyboard. In the Categories: box select Edit. In the Edit box, select Redo. Select the Press new shortcut key: box. Press the keyboard combination fn+F4 key (or just F4 key if you’ve setup the Mac function keys normally) Click Add. Apple also releases system updates that keep your Mac secure and stable. When a new major version of OS X is released, you can download the upgrade for free from the App Store. If you're using an older version of OS X, updates are handled through the Software Update utility.
Step 1: Open any one Office 2016 app, such as Word.
Step 2: Click on the File tab.
Step 3: Select the Account tab on the left-side pane. On the right-side pane, locate the Office Updates section. Click on Update Options button, and then click on Disable Updates. Confirm the 'User Account Control dialog' if prompted. Then Office 2016 will not automatically update until you manually update it or re-enable the auto updates feature.
